What shall we focus on next? Taking good care of ourselves is the basis for creating healthy connections with others and building stronger relationships.  Ramsey has been working with these ideas more and more.  The next area of focus for the What's Worthwhile Podcast will be around the foundations of health for self care; meeting and learning in groups in order to practice healthy connections; and using that increased capacity to improve the most important relationships in our lives.

[00:00:00] Foreign. [00:00:11] What's Worthwhile, Taking good care of ourselves and showing up well for the people we care about I'm Ramsey Zimmerman. Join me in exploring Self Care, Healthy Connections and stronger relationships. [00:00:26] Foreign. [00:00:30] Hey there, it's Ramsey here. [00:00:33] I'm looking toward a new season of what's Worthwhile based on exploring Self Care, healthy Connections, and stronger relationships. I'm no expert on these topics, far from it, but I want to learn more, get better. [00:00:49] So I intend to explore them through research and sharing, podcast discussions, interactions with listeners and practice in my own life. [00:00:59] I need this. I want this. And I suspect there are many others out there that do too. [00:01:05] So let me give you some thoughts I have in mind and lay out a path that we can explore together. [00:01:15] Self Care, Healthy Connections and Stronger Relationships first off, we need to take good care of ourselves on the day to day and the long term. [00:01:26] We need to do the basics Eat real food, get good sleep, move throughout the day, exercise regularly, Manage our stress effectively. [00:01:39] When we are healthy and grounded in touch with ourselves and our needs, we can openly, honestly connect with the people around us, especially those that we care about. [00:01:50] Then we can build repair, strengthen our relationships with our partners, friends, kids, colleagues and neighbors. [00:02:00] That's what I mean by self care, healthy connections and stronger relationships. [00:02:06] I'm not an expert in these three topics. I want to fully explore them. [00:02:12] I have been learning a lot in the past few years. [00:02:15] I was mostly focused on self care during my training in nutritional therapy and holistic health. I learned all about and still promote the foundations of health, including eating nutrient dense whole food, getting enough good sleep, waking up to feel refreshed and ready for your day, getting intentional daily movement, and managing stress effectively. [00:02:37] Lately I've been learning and practicing more about healthy connections between people and how that will lead to stronger relationships. I've been doing a lot of group work, mostly with other men, but also with women. I've been leading or facilitating a holistic brain health focus group through Amen university called Amen Whole4, which drives home the point that the brain is the physical intersection between the mind, body, spirit and relationships. Taking steps to make any or all of those healthier leads to brain health improvements. [00:03:12] We meet and learn together in groups because relating to each other and building connections is part of the improvement. I've also been highly involved this year with a men's work organization called MELD and its co founder Owen Marcus. In fact, Owen and I have been writing a book together which we're now getting ready for publication. The book is called all in Good a novel approach to building a men's group. It is both the story of how Owen guided me to start a men's group and a complete guide to help others do the the same. Why put so much into a men's group? Because loneliness, isolation, loss of purpose and productivity are crippling to men and to the people in their lives. Working peer to peer in a men's group is a powerful answer to these problems. The connections that we make and build and practice in groups, they extend far beyond the groups themselves. By building our capacity to show up better and more consistently in the important relationships in our lives with the people we are closest to, who count on us and who we count on, including our spouses, families, co workers and friends. I'm still learning all the theories and intricacies and ins and outs of relationships, attachments and interconnections. I'd like to use the minutes of the what's Worthwhile podcast to explore these topics more fully. I'd like to share what I have learned and what I will learn. I'd like to bring on guests who will speak with me about their own experiences and expertise. I hope to invite thoughtful people, friends, experts who want to connect with me and with you. Not to sell anything to us, but to increase our understanding. I'd also like to keep you up to date on our progress with the book and get your feedback and reviews when the time is right. So what do you think? Want to come along with me on this new exploration? I hope so. I'm not entirely sure what it all will look like, but I'm eager to get started and for today, that is enough.
