What’s worthwhile to consume, consider, believe, say and do towards Peace of Mind, Vitality of Body and Joy of Spirit? And what’s the big deal, why do we need to do anything different from what we all do now? Modern life with our screens and desks and food delivery options does not line up with what we were designed or evolved for: waking with the sun, walking around, spending time with others, eating nutrient-dense whole foods, and getting enough high-quality restorative sleep. We need to be mindful of what we consume, whether we’re talking food or narratives, to consider whether or not it is real, healthy and good. We choose what to believe, whether we call it science or faith, and that’s the basis of what we say out loud, and the actions that we do or do not take. We need motivation to do the right things, and we need to talk about it, because it often isn’t obvious what the right things are.   I have three offers for healthy living motivation and discussion: this podcast, the “Stress Response” book available on Amazon, and direct services to help you get Better Before Burnout.  Learn more at www.whatsworthwhile.net.

[00:00:11] What's worthwhile to consume, consider, believe, say and do towards peace of mind, vitality of body, and joy of spirit. I'm Ramsey Zimmerman. Here's some more healthy living motivation and discussion. [00:00:30] Hey there, it's Ramsay here. [00:00:33] So what's the big deal? I mean, why do we even need any healthy living motivation and discussion? What's wrong with what we're doing now, how we're living these days in mainstream society with conventional wisdom, prevailing opinions, and settled science? [00:00:48] Well, if only there were simple answers. Instead, there are so many conflicting voices telling us what to think and what to do, and it's hard to tell what's real, let alone correct. Because images, audio and video are often altered or downright fabricated, it's tough to figure out what to believe. And there aren't any single sources of truth or authority anymore, if there ever were. [00:01:19] We're connected now more than ever before to our devices, electronically and with people online who agree with us, who feed our beliefs and notions and laugh at the same memes or that enjoy as much as we do, shouting at each other, safe in our entrenched positions, reinforced by content that affirms our biases and beliefs. But we're disconnected from each other and isolated in real life. In fact, if we went all in on this version of modern life, it would be perfectly happy to keep us indoors, at home, by ourselves, glued to our screens, breathing only stale air, staying out of the sun and eating only delivery food. Friends, we were not meant to live that way. We were meant to live in harmony with nature and with other people in families. We were meant to wake up with the sunrise, go outside, walk around all day, eat natural real foods, to hunt, to make stuff, to dance, to sing, to laugh, to love, to lay down and sleep through the night and get up the next morning and do it all again. [00:02:30] How much of that natural, healthy rhythm and lifestyle can we reclaim and how can we do it? I think all in all, it comes down to what we consume, consider, believe, say and do. It starts with what we consume, what we eat and drink, but also what we watch and listen to. What do you have a steady diet of? Is it nutrient dense whole food or is it ultra processed food? Is it clean water or sweet drinks? Is it optimistic, honest and motivational content or is it violent, hate filled and nihilistic? The database developers have always had it right. Garbage in, garbage out. How often do you stop to consider what you consume? Do you read food labels to see if it is made with only a few ingredients and that they're Natural and you can pronounce them. Do you question the veracity of claims or stories that you read and check the sources and look for context and seek out additional perspectives? Whether we're talking about consuming calories or narratives, I think it's really important to know if they are real, natural, true and healthy. We all believe some things and not others. Some people put their faith in religion, Some people put their faith in science. And it doesn't need to be one or the other. [00:03:47] Faith is what we choose to believe. People admonish us sometimes. Trust in God or trust the science can either ever truly be proven, questions will remain. Questions about the nature of God, questions about the nature of, well, nature. It's not ever settled. Religion is not settled. Science is not settled. By definition, science is asking questions, making predictions, and then running experiments to try to prove or disprove hypotheses. Neither religion nor science should discourage or be afraid of questions. Finding answers ourselves to our questions is what builds faith, whether we're talking about God or science. Don't get me wrong. I'm a believer. I'm a huge fan of faith. It's just really important to know and understand that everything we believe to be true is based on faith. So what do you choose to believe? Say it. Speak your mind. Share your best understanding of the truth. Do so for your own good and for the good of others and for the greater good. We all enjoy expressing ourselves and we're wired up to do so. But that means that we need to listen as well. Hear people out, consider what they have to say, respond accordingly. Hopefully respond lovingly when we're too afraid to speak, or when we chastise or impose harsh penalties upon people for speaking the truth as they understand it. Then we go down a dark path, a path to fear and loneliness and groupthink and mistakes and tyranny. Let's talk about it. I think we need more discussion, not less, especially about the things that we don't agree upon. All these echo chambers that we're all trapped in are no good for ourselves, for our health, or for society at large. [00:05:32] Finally, what are you going to do? Are you going to sit at home in front of your computer screen in rage? Where are you going to get up, Go for a walk or for a run? Meet up in real life with a friend. Go to a community meeting. Go shopping yourself in a farmer's market for real food that once stood on four legs or grew in the dirt. We need motivation to get up and get going. What's your motivation? Are you driven by fear, not to take risks? Or are you driven by love to get out there and connect with the people that you care about on the daily we don't always feel like doing stuff. We could just as soon stay out of it. So it's good to know why you bother. Do you have a clear sense of why, a purpose? I encourage you to take some time to think that one through. Why do you try? Are there people in your life that love you who count on you either at home or at work? That's a pretty good reason to make efforts. Otherwise, what we do will often be by default, do what everyone expects of us. Do whatever seems easiest, obvious or expedient. Are you going to do what is healthy and life giving and genuinely fun? Or are you going to do what the machine tells you to do? Look, we are mind, body and spirit. Interconnected joy, love and fulfillment come from harmonious health and the connection of all three. What's worthwhile is to feed and nourish and support and honor all three together. [00:06:57] We build peace of mind through being aware of our situations, seeking many perspectives of information, thinking for ourselves, and ultimately choosing what to believe and say and do based on our best judgment, understanding of facts, discernment and informed consent. We build vitality of body through nutrient dense whole foods, effective digestion, smooth blood sugar regulation, daily movement and exercise, manage stress response and getting enough high quality sleep. We build joy of spirit by getting to know ourselves, connecting with God and connecting with others, our family, our loved ones, our friends, colleagues and community members. [00:07:42] We build faith in God and in science by thinking for ourselves, running our own thought experiments and choosing to believe what rings true. [00:07:52] I'm doing my part to provide healthy living, motivation and discussion. These days. I have three specific things to offer. [00:08:00] The first is this podcast, what's Worthwhile. I will continue to speak direct, concise, and hopefully entertaining and motivational solo messages based on what I'm thinking about, learning or talking about with others. I will continue to post conversations with guests about their own stories, beliefs and work to find out and share what's worthwhile for mind, body and spiritual. The second thing I have to offer is my book Stress Response. Manage your response to stress in order to reduce anxiety, avoid burnout, and find calm and steady focus. Available on Amazon. We all have a lot of stress and we can't and shouldn't even try to get rid of it all. The trick is to respond better to the mental, emotional and virtual challenges because our bodies were designed or evolved to deal primarily with physical challenges. [00:08:51] The third thing I offer is direct services and interactions. If you want to talk, dig into your nutrition and behaviors, please connect with me. I'm especially reaching out to guys who are out there fighting the good fight, showing up at work and at home but struggling. Maybe you're tired, worn out, starting to snap at people, feeling like you're going to lose it. Well, let me tell you, you need to get better before burnout. I'd love to give you a free PDF guide and then tell you about the 12 week Better Before Burnout journey featuring daily audio messages, one on one coaching, and weekly gatherings with other guys who are also going through it. You can learn more about all of this through my website, whatsworthwhile.net I don't have all the answers, no one does. But let's give it a shot. For ourselves, for our loved ones, and for the greater good. We can get better and for today, that is enough. [00:09:48] Ready for more? Visit whatsworthwhile.net to listen to podcast episodes. Master your response to stress by reading my book Stress Response, available through Amazon or to get better before burnout sets in by requesting the free guide. Regardless of where you are in your journey, I'd love to hear from you and talk about how we might move forward together. [00:10:09] Please contact me, Ramsey Zimmerman through the website or on social media. Social media like Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or X. Thanks.
