[00:00:11] Speaker A: What's worthwhile? It's a question we all need to answer for ourselves. I'm Ramsey Zimmerman. As for me, it's building mind, body and spirit wellness. Let's ponder the big questions together as we seek peace of mind, vitality of body, and joy of spirit.
[00:00:39] Speaker B: Hey there, It's Ramsey here. I was in a meeting last night and the phrase in this moment kept coming up. We were talking about how people were responding to something that was planned and set into motion a long time ago, but was playing out now. Now, in this particular instance, happens to be a couple of days after Trump returned to office. So what is this moment? It is a moment that we are all in and all sharing, but I imagine that we are all perceiving it and experiencing it very differently. The basic facts of this moment include Trump has returned to office in a peaceful, smooth transition. He has signed a raft of executive orders to reverse the previous administration's vision and begin to institute his own. Many federal employees are on their way out of positions, either by their own will or because they are being sidelined. Trump declared the border to be a national emergency and is sending the military to secure it. The Immigration Service is beginning what itself is calling the biggest mass deportation in history. The US Is pulling out of the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Agreement while simultaneously expressing interest in expansion through the Gulf of America, Canada and Greenland. There's a lot more happening too. I didn't even mention the declaration of only two genders, but these are top of mind for me and you get the idea. Big bold moves. This moment clearly looks and feels a lot different from a week ago. I'm trying to understand how I see and experience this moment. I'm also trying to imagine and understand how other people are perceiving and experiencing this moment. I can imagine that people on the right see it as an enormous victory and those on the left feel defeated. Some will see the exit from the WHO and Paris Accords as justified based on the expense and track records of those bodies, while others will see them as foolish disengagement from working internationally to solve problems. Some will see the securing of the border and beginning of deportations as long needed security measures, while others will see them as heartless prevention or removal of human rights for people to live free, respectable lives. The list goes on. For me, I have great hope for renewal for our nation in the next several years. I hope and intend to work with as many people as possible to improve our overall state of mind, body and spirit wellness. We are clearly coming into a time of great upheaval and change in our nation that will extend to the world and maybe to Mars, as well as impact our communities, families and selves. So how is this moment impacting our mind, body and spirit wellness? More specifically, our peace of mind, vitality of body and joy of spirit. I think of peace of mind as the opposite of internal conflict. To take a gauge of your peace of mind, ask yourself how well do you understand your situation? How well do you accept your situation? How honestly can you share with others? I would encourage you in this moment to look and read and listen as widely as you can about the issues that you care about. Don't just and only stay inside your comfortable echo chamber. We all have one. Instead, venture beyond, seek other viewpoints, examine the source materials where facts are laid out. Then try to engage with others lovingly and gently, but honestly and truthfully. Seek to be heard and to understand, not to win arguments, score points or to be vindicated. Let's work together to find and spread truth lovingly so that we can all come to terms with this moment. I think of vitality of body as having the vigor and the energy to do the things we want to do. To gauge your vitality, ask yourself how energetic do you feel? How much of what you want to do can you accomplish? How well, as opposed to ill do you feel? Maybe this moment has you feeling exuberant, pumped, energized and ready for what comes next. Or maybe this moment is having the opposite impact upon you and you feel drained, despair, depressed or stressed out. Those feelings will drastically impact your energy levels. If you are not feeling energetic, I encourage you to start with the basics. Are you eating well, eating whole natural foods with enough protein? Or are you stress eating junk food or drinking more than you should? How are you dealing with stress and discouragement? Exercise happens to be the best stress reliever. How about your sleep? Your body needs that eight hours or so each night of high quality sleep without distraction from screens and noise. I know these things may be easier said than done, but they are super important. Finally, I think of joy of spirit as walking around with a deep feeling of good, of loving and feeling loved and connection beyond ourselves. Ask yourself these questions to gauge your joy of spirit. How grateful do you feel for what you have? How connected do you feel to others and or to God? How happy do you feel to be alive? No one has a perfect situation or everything that they want, but we all do have a lot. Have you stopped recently and looked at what you've got and felt grateful and expressed that gratitude to the right people, whether it is a roof over your head or food on the table, or people around who love you, we should appreciate and feel grateful for what we have. When we feel grateful, it signals to our bodies that things are okay, that we are safe, that the body can digest and rest and heal. In terms of connections, people have always been social and live in families and groups. Those interpersonal connections get us through tough times and give us people with which to celebrate. I believe in God, that He was our Creator. Connecting to God through prayer and meditation empowers me to imagine and see things and enables me to write words like these. I encourage you to seek connection to the higher power, however that works for you. By the way, I put those questions together on a single page PDF that is available on my website whatsworthwhile.net in the resources section and I'll post a direct link in the show Notes I hope that you have someone to talk to about all of this if you feel like it. If you'd like for that someone to be me, then please reach out to me. You can comment on the podcast, send me a note through the website, or send me an email. Here we are in this moment. This moment won't last. We'll be on to the next moment. But wait, that's. That's not right. We will always, by definition, be in this moment, but this moment changes. So we need to be mindful, pay attention to how we are doing, ask questions, seek truth, connect with others, treat our bodies well. We will never know or have it all, but we can always strive for more and be grateful for what we have.
And for today, that is enough.
